Beckenham Neighbourhood Association (BNA)

The Beckenham Neighbourhood Association (BNA) covers the Beckenham Loop and across Tennyson Street to include the block bounded by Southampton St, Southey St and Colombo St.

The overall aim is to enhance our neighbourhood and create people-friendly streets and places through a series of pilot and community-driven initiatives. The result should be safer streets, a more connected neighbourhood, and stronger community awareness.

We work to improve the environment for local residents, represent our members to the City Council, ECan and other agencies, and channel information back to residents about forthcoming changes or consultations. This website is one way we use to do that, and also serves as an archive for past newsletters and events.

This ‘Better Beckenham’ website was first set up to help with a Waka Kotahi (NZ Transport Agency) Innovating Streets project. In May 2020, the BNA and the Christchurch City Council were successful in a bid to the Innovating Streets For People fund. That project has finished (it saw speed limits in the Loop lowered to 40 km/hr), but the BNA continues to focus on ways to enhance where we live and create people-friendly streets and places to produce safer streets, a more pleasant and connected neighbourhood, and stronger community awareness.

This webpage will be a space to share ideas, a way to find out about events and to get in contact with other locals working on positive changes in the community.
